Evaluation - Question 4

Teen films are mostly created to target the ages of 13-19, and depending on their genre they could appeal to both genders or only one. Teen films could also appeal to adults who may connect or see similarities with the older characters in the teen films or they may even watch teen films as they feel nostalgic and want to reminisce on their teenage years.

Our teen film was made with quite a broad target audience as well as a niche target audience. When coming up with ideas of what it could be we knew we would want something that would allow a lot of people to watch it but also have a particular character that would represent a smaller group of teens. The main character in our film is a outsider who has a talent in skating we see him skating in the opening and he  is very good, due to this sport that he takes part in which isn't very common among the 'cool' teenagers, I believe this would attracted many teen skateboarders who may be outsiders to watch the film and gender wise I believe more guys would be attracted because the main character is a male. The sub-genres of 'The Trip' are comedy and romance, I feel as though adding the element of comedy to our film it would encourage more guys to watch the film as they can relate to showing less emotion but more humor and a less serious side to the film. The romance element stereotypical will attract more females who are more drawn to films which have emotion and relationships forming in them.
'The Trip's unique selling point is that even though we have elements of drama and times where our main character may not be treated well by the ' cool kids ' the humor and comedy in the film allows audience not to take it too seriously and just enjoy the film for what it is. The romance element allows there to be some meaning to the film and allows there to be a story line that can be followed and related too as many teens tend to have crushes in school or fall in love with someone in their teen years.

This is a Facebook page of the type of teen who would watch 'The Trip'
Firstly it would attract young male teens more than females and we can clearly see from the banner behind his profile is of a skateboard which shows he is probably a fan of skateboarding or a skateboarder himself which will allow him to connect and find similarities in himself and the main character, Josh.
In this teens films that his watched we can clearly see that he is into teen films, our film follows the typical conventions of a teen film and was inspired by some of the teen films above, because of this I think it would attract teens who are already interested in teen films and enjoy watching them.
From looking at what type of music this teen listens to it is clear he enjoys punk rock music which may not be something that most cool kids listen to which again may allow this teen to relate to our main character and make the teen feel more inclined to watching our teen film. In the opening of my groups teen film there is punk/pop music used which could also attract teens who like this music to enjoy our film and again feel as though they can connect with the main character who too likes this similar types of music.
