evaluation question 4
The audiences for teen films are usually teens which is pretty obvious but there are many different catogories that teenage fit into for example the nerds, jocks, outsiders, goths and leaders, teen films normally apply to teens between the ages 13-19.Adults are also part of the audience for teen films even though they were teens a while ago they feel like they can relate as they enjoyed the same things that teens in these films do.
in our film teen film we tried to cover as many target audiences as possible we did this by firstly creating a characterthat we though that would be suitable so we created a number who is prone to making mistakes and who is very clupmsy which we knew would attractive a comdedy loving audience, aslo our main character is seen as an outsider so we made him have the skill to skatebaord which in teen films is seen as a less popular thing to do.This appealed to another audience'outsiders and skateboarders as they felt they could relate to our characters life.another auidence our film can attract is males as our main 2 characters are male and also are film contains alot of tense action scenes which appeal to the main audience.furthermore the fac that our film includes romance helps to capture a female audience as they stereotypically like a good love film.
this would be a typical profile for someone who would be a fan of the 'the trip'
evaluation question 4
who our audience and wider audience is
the audience for our media product is based on the age groups 15/23 because it is a college/high school themed film with comedy and slight romance included. there being the college included as the main location is a key factor to have a success in our audience and who our wider audience could be because it would draw the attention of the up coming college students and the film would give them a slight feel on how college life is in London.our film opening is indicated both to boys and girls because its not just based about a boys life and has a sense of romance within it would draw the attention of young couples that like romance/comedy teen films.
the wider audience would be all types of teens and slightly mid aged or young adults because it is said that adults usually like teen films maybe because it reminds them of their teen years or had no opportunity to go school and wants to experience it visually.

evaluation question 2
there isnt any other stereotypes included in our film that is introduced in the film opening.
the representaion of each charater in our fims are very typical except for the Barry because within the film we introduce him speacking to the perfect girl, this is a rare introduction to a bad boy in a teen film, so he doesnt commet a crime straight away until he is hit by the outsider and then starts acting in a violent way and chases after the outsider.
the other characters are presented in a formal way for example josh is introduced as a loner and is skating on his own so it gives a wide impression of a outsider and is noticable straight away.

Evaluation - Question 3
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Creative Media:
This is an independent production company, which is inspired by Creativity Media who have produced many films which are well known in the UK such as Anvuahood, Fast girls and Sket. So we felt that Creative Media would be interested in similar types of films and since our film is set in the UK and is a similar comedy film to Anvuahood, we as a group thought that this would be the best production company to make and help produce our film. There are however many restrictions when chosing a independent company to produce your film, because it is independt it means the production company does not have huge financial backing like the bigger mainstream production companys this means our film had a low budget which lead to less acess to high quality equiptment, we had to use smaller cameras and werent able to have expensive equipment so instead we used what was avaliable to us. There was also reduced access to expensive post production because of the fact it is a small independent company. Unlike films who are produced by big mainstream companies we did not have the ability to cast big famous celebrities to be part of our film so we had a very unknown cast and a very small crew. However having an independent company to produce our film does not mean that it is a bad thing, it means you are able to have artistic freedom to do just about anything with your film and take it in any direction you like, there doesn't have to be a happy ending in order to appeal to the mainstream audience as there is no big conglomerates to try and change your ideas.
Revolver:
This is an independent distribution company that we have chosen to distribute our film. This company is like our production company it is independent, this too me means that the distribution of our film will be limited it will not be worldwide like most mainstream films however it will have a small release in the UK, due to the low budget of a independent distribution company this means that the advertising for the film will be kept to a minimum there will be no cross-media convergence or merchandise for our film. Like most independent films with independent distribution we will have to rely on social media sites such as Instagram, Twitter and Facebook to help us promote our film as well as word of mouth.
Evaluation - Question 4
Teen films are mostly created to target the ages of 13-19, and depending on their genre they could appeal to both genders or only one. Teen films could also appeal to adults who may connect or see similarities with the older characters in the teen films or they may even watch teen films as they feel nostalgic and want to reminisce on their teenage years.
Our teen film was made with quite a broad target audience as well as a niche target audience. When coming up with ideas of what it could be we knew we would want something that would allow a lot of people to watch it but also have a particular character that would represent a smaller group of teens. The main character in our film is a outsider who has a talent in skating we see him skating in the opening and he is very good, due to this sport that he takes part in which isn't very common among the 'cool' teenagers, I believe this would attracted many teen skateboarders who may be outsiders to watch the film and gender wise I believe more guys would be attracted because the main character is a male. The sub-genres of 'The Trip' are comedy and romance, I feel as though adding the element of comedy to our film it would encourage more guys to watch the film as they can relate to showing less emotion but more humor and a less serious side to the film. The romance element stereotypical will attract more females who are more drawn to films which have emotion and relationships forming in them.
'The Trip's unique selling point is that even though we have elements of drama and times where our main character may not be treated well by the ' cool kids ' the humor and comedy in the film allows audience not to take it too seriously and just enjoy the film for what it is. The romance element allows there to be some meaning to the film and allows there to be a story line that can be followed and related too as many teens tend to have crushes in school or fall in love with someone in their teen years.

This is a Facebook page of the type of teen who would watch 'The Trip'
Firstly it would attract young male teens more than females and we can clearly see from the banner behind his profile is of a skateboard which shows he is probably a fan of skateboarding or a skateboarder himself which will allow him to connect and find similarities in himself and the main character, Josh.
In this teens films that his watched we can clearly see that he is into teen films, our film follows the typical conventions of a teen film and was inspired by some of the teen films above, because of this I think it would attract teens who are already interested in teen films and enjoy watching them.
From looking at what type of music this teen listens to it is clear he enjoys punk rock music which may not be something that most cool kids listen to which again may allow this teen to relate to our main character and make the teen feel more inclined to watching our teen film. In the opening of my groups teen film there is punk/pop music used which could also attract teens who like this music to enjoy our film and again feel as though they can connect with the main character who too likes this similar types of music.
Evaluation - Question 6
Technology used in RESEARCH:
Technology used in PLANNING:
Technology used in FILMING & EDITING:
Technology used in EVALUATION:
During the process of creating and constructing my teen film opening I have used a vast range of technology, as mentioned above, all of this technology has helped me gain and develop new skills and improve skills I already have. At the beginning of the year I was not very confident in using a camera to record my prelim or even knew different ways to use a camera, I also didn't know how to edit in final cut pro but through this experience I have managed to create match cuts on final cut pro that look very professional. I have began to use different types of technology not just Power-point or blogger but more interesting technology like Camtasia and Wordle all of which has made me a much better media producer and gave me the confidence to call my self a media producer.

Evaluation - Question 7
Research and Planning:
There are big difference between the research and planning for my preliminary task and my final opening scene task. When I started my preliminary task, I did not collect any research. Me and my group pretty much just got stuck in with the filming and following the script that we were given. We however did make a storyboard for our prelim but it was a digital storyboard of pictures we took, it was very basic.
However for my final task (opening scene) a lot more effort was put into the research and planning. As a group and as individuals we were determined to find out stereotypes of characters we would see in teen films, how they were presented, what they would wear, what camera shots, sounds and what type of editing would be used to introduce them.
We also made sure that we looked at what type of conventions we would find in teen films, typical themes, genres, we also did a research task that involved us finding out about the binary oppositions that we could inf in teen films and how they are represented and distinguished using mise en scene, camera, editing and sound. All of this research was very useful to me and my group as it helped us decide what type of film opening and film we would like to make, what types of characters we would want to use and how we would present these characters. We reached a decision that our teen film would have the sub genre's of comedy and romance, with the stereotypical characters of the outsider, the perfect girl and the cool guys.
Here are some screen shots of the research that was collected for my opening scene task.
The planning part was also very different, when it came to the prelim the most planning me and my group did was creating a very basic digital storyboard, we didn't consider what costumes our characters would wear, what locations we would chose, what props we would use, we just went ahead and filmed with whatever was available. However when in the planning stage for my final project a lot of thought and effort went into, from the locations that would be used and why they should be used, to what characters would be wearing, what different music would be used to introduce different characters, the costumes they would wear and so on, this was all posted on the group blog.
Looking back at what action I took during the stages of making my prelim and the actions I took during the stages of making of my final project, I can clearly see the progression I have made at each step. I learnt that the more effort and detail you put into the research and planning the more accurate and better your film will turn out to be. If you do the correct research you are able to know what audience you want to target and what genre best suits different age groups and who it will attract. I also feel that when creating my prelim there was many things that we did not do for example watching back our shots to make sure that they were acceptable to use, however when doing our final project this was one of the first things we did after capturing a shot, this led to us have much better and professional looking shots in comparison with our prelim.
I feel that I have made a big improvement with skills in researching and planning, filming and editing from my prelim and my final project.

'The Trip' is Finished
As a group we have finally added all the finishing touches and we have finally completed our opening scene.
We are happy with our finished piece considering all the issues we ran into and the time we had to complete it in and we're all very excited to see it on the big screen and to watch everyone elses opening scenes !
Music change
Once we completed our whole opening scene, added the right effects and titles it was time to add our music. We originally chose four different tracks to use for our opening scene but there were some problems in obtaining these songs as we were not able to download them, as a group when we listened to the tracks and watched our opening scene at the same time we also came to the conclusion that the songs did not fit well with out opening scene as they did not suit or fit well with it. So we went on SoundCloud to find new songs that we could use for our opening scene and we ended up choosing the ones seen in the picture above. Once we added these and played our whole opening scene with the music we were much happier with the way the music fitted with the shots correctly and helped tell a better story and give a much lighter vibe to the whole opening scene which showed it was meant to be a romantic comedy film.
Process of editing 2

In our last bit of editing we had almost finished the whole opening scene however there were still bits and bobs that we needed to fix and we still had to decide as a group where we wanted our titles. The first thing we did was adjust the exposure of the shots, especially where our main character sees the perfect girl because it was not bright enough but in the end it came out right. We also agreed that in some shots we would blur the sides as we felt this would increase the focus to where we wanted it and would help make our shots look a bit more professional. After doing this we decided where our titles would go, this was very easy because most of our shots had spaces in the frame where the titles fitted perfectly. We also came to a decision that when the title of the film would be introduced that we would freeze frame a shot of our character about to fall over (on purpose), we thought this effect would be really good as it clearly shows the name of our film. We also added our music in and made sure it fitted properly, however we did change our music due to some issues we found with it but that will be explained in a separate post.

11th march editing
Today we had to add titles and sound to our opening,we also had to cut out some parts of our movie opening as it didn't look as good when we looked back at it.Also when adding titles we had to make sure we had the names in the title safe otherwise on the big screen it would cut out some of the names.

Last minute issues
As we headed towards our deadline we started to encounter a few problems, our first set back was the issue with the weather as on one of the days we wanted to film it rained meaning we couldn't record on that day.
When it came to filming our main character 'josh' we broke the glasses that he was meant to wear which was a setback in the filming.
another issue with our film was the music choices which had to be changed in the last minute due to us not thinking choices were good enough at portraying what was happening in the film opening.lastly after everything was edited and done we realised that our film opening was over the 2 minute mark so we had to cut out any unnecessary clips which was hard because we thought all of it was good footage
