Planning Final Project - Production Schedule

Film Openings - 4 tracks (may be used)

1)This is the first track I chose the part of the track I would use is from 1.09 minutes on wards could be used for the part of the opening where the main character is seen rushing to college because he is late. The song gives of a vibe of someone rushing because of its fast tempo therefore I though it would be appropriate for that section of our opening. 2)Track number two I feel would be used when our main character bumps into the 'Tough intimidating guys'as this type of music could be associated with a tough gangsta type of character which we are trying to represent. 3)I thought this song might be appropriate to add as part of the begining of the opening where we see our character experimenting with his skateboard. I feel as though this would show that our film is not a serious drama film but more a comedy film which could be quite fun to watch. 4) This track could also be used for the first part of our opening where we present our main character.

Music/Sound used in Teen film openings - Research

The first teen film opening that I looked at was JUNO:
The song used in the film opening is 'All I want is you by Barry Louis Polisar'
This song gives you a slight feel of what the film will be about, the music clearly gives you a refrecltion of Junos character despite her being faced with an unplanned pregnancy she is a very quirky girl with a happy personality. The music also gives you an idea of the type of location the film will be set in, its obviously not going to be in the city in london but probably in a rural area in america. So you could say that the opening music has to be a reflection of what your film is going to be about.

The next teen film opening that I looked at was KIDULTHOOD:
The film opening of kidulthood doesnt use any particular songs, however it uses a very uneasy type of music which changes the atmosphere of what we can actually see happening, instead of happy music while the characters talk about partying there is mysterious music. This could clearly foreshadow what is to come in this film and that all does not end well. The music also represents the genre of the film which is drama.

The last teen film opening that I looked at was DAIRY OF A WIMPY KID:
The use of music and sound in this opening was very different from the other two which I have looked at as it does not use much music/sound there is more dialolgue but when the music does actually kick in it does exactly what the others do, it reflects the film. The diary of a wimpy kid is a comedy teen film and this is clearly shown with upbeat music which is representing the countdown while he is rushing to get to school.

From this research into different film openings I can clearly see that the type of music me and my group decided to use for our opening needs to reflect the type of film we are planning so because ours will be comdey romance our music cant be too serious. Our music not only needs to relect the type of film we are making but also the location and our main character.

Planning Final Project - Ideas - 'TRIP'

Overview of Planning

When having our group discussion we though about many ideas on what we could possibly do for our main opening project. While discussing what we could do we thought that our previous idea that we came up with would be a good idea to use.

So we decided that our Plot would be a traveling and arriving of the main character in our opening.
Where a nerd is seen skateboarding to college however it is not so simple. While rushing to college he catches a glimpse of another character who happens to be the 'perfect girl' (which if we had to make the whole film). As he was mesmerized by her beauty he loses control over his skateboard and bumps into the 'cool' guys or the 'hoodrats', somewhat of an equivalent to the jocks in American teen films. Now through him bumping into these hoodrats and the plot we can clearly distinguish the contrast between the two binary oppositions. No after this we see the guys chasing the nerd all the way to college but luckily he escapes and gets to college just in time.

Because we are planning to make a film opening for a Teen Film, which will clearly be our genre. So the locations that we plan to use will be our college and areas surrounding the college in order to show the traveling and arriving. Our sub-genre for the film will be humor so this opening could be classed as the opening for Rom-com which shouldn't really be taken so seriously. Other themes would include friendship, romance, comedy.

Shot by Shot remake - Editing

The editing for our Shot by Shot remake went well. I feel that we overcame any issues we had and we tried our very best to make the most of the time that we had to edit this remake. We managed to add a voice over just like the one in the actual opening scene and we also added credits and the music. The voice over however could have been a little more clear and of a higher standard but I do think it is acceptable and when watching our final product, me and my group were very pleased with the outcome.

Shot by Shot remake - Filming

I feel that our filming went well  and we managed to get most of the scenes that we needed in order to make the shot - by - shot remake. I feel that the time constraints which we had when filming played a big role as everything was more rushed than we would have liked it to be planned and has more time to perfect our filming and also re watch the clips and also time to re shoot any scenes which we feel could have been done a little better.
We also had constraints on the locations in which we could film as we were restricted to only the college we were not able to make our shots very realistic and most shots look very similar.

The Breakfast Club - Overview Of Filiming

Today , i think our filiming went ok , but i think filming with a tight schedule is diffuclut as we did not get all the equpiment and props needed for each of the scenes .Furthmore , we also did not have a script so we had to improvise making our scenes very unproffesional and unorganised .Although , filming under a tight schedule can be diffculut it helps speed up the amount of footage we filmed due to the pressure . Moreover , i think we should have re-watched the clip as within the clip there were certian camera techiniques , which we did not include in our own scene

Also , i felt that with our boundaries stricted we did not get to film in the best locations needed for a scene where there were cars in an outside enviroment .
-
Editing-when editing our finished scenes we found it diffculut to edit our shots into a way they look to be coherent and seamless , this was because as looking at the original clip we didnt get to follow the shots , so this made it harder to be able to make the shots flow in one go .

Screen shots of the story board for the breakfast club

Shot by Shot Remake Task

The Breakfast Club (remake)

In this task we plan to make a shot by shot account of what happens in the opening of breakfast club, we will do this by firstly making a digital storyboard. We will use screen grabs from the opening sequence to complete our storyboard. The storyboard will be followed by detailed planning into how we are going to re-create the scene using our own equipment, we will consider things such as : what props we will use, what type of clothing we will need to wear, which loction we will chose to film the remake at, when we have considered all of this we plan to blog it to show what we have done.
After we have made these decision we will film our re make and blog our experiences on the way. We will then edit the clips and make them into a short film, making sure we include a voice over (who will have an american accent) also making sure that we have the correct titles in the conventional order, ensuring we add evidence of this onto our blog.
Finally, after completing our remake we will add it to our blog alongside the original also providing a comparison commentary allowing you to see the difference between the two.

The Breakfast Club - Characters

In The Breakfast Club we are introduced to many different types of characters, which can be heard described by the narrator at the start of the film.
The Brain
An Athlete
A Basketcase
Princess
Criminal

So lets begin
The first character we are introduced to is
'THE PRINCESS'
We can clearly tell that she is your typical spoilt rich girl who gets everything she wants, the conversation with her father illustrates this perfectly she doesn't understand why she  should miss shopping to be in detention. Absolutely absurd if you ask me! However she does have a caring parent who is obviously interested in her school life and well being.
The next character we are introduced to is
'THE BRAIN'
We are then introduced to the brain which we can clearly tell is the brain. He doesn't come from a well off family like the princess, but he has been taught hard work as his mum tells him 'you figure out a way to study' in detention. We can tell it is unusual for him to be in detention as his mother seems very shocked and concerned about it. We can see he is receiving a lot of pressure from his mother. He seems like your average guy, even the clothes he is wearing look very typical and as if they fit in.

The third character we are introduced to is
'THE ATHLETE'
The character of the athlete is introduced as someone who probably doesn't usually get into detention as he is too busy working towards his 'scholarship' which his father mentions. We can tell he is not from a rich or poor background but a normal family so he is very dependent on this scholarship to get him into a good college of his choice. Similarly to the brain he is receiving pressure from his father to fix up his attitude and ways.

The fourth character we are introduced to is
'THE CRIMINAL'
It is very clear from the entrance that this character has been here before, unlike the others he is not accompanied by parents which could suggest Saturday detention is a regular occurrence for him. He is seen to walk in front of a car which shows us he posses a 'I don't care about anything attitude'

The fifth and final character we are introduced to is
'THE BASKETCASE'
This character is shown as an outsider from the beginning, not even her own parents wait around to say bye to her they just drive off, which could show either that they do not care about her or that she, like the criminal has been here many times before and they are too use to it. We can see from the car that it is one of the most expensive cars of the lot, however the character herself is dressed very all over the place as if she doesn't know how to present herself.

progress analysis

i think my group is very good at sticking to deadlines and uploading work continuously. When it comes to my work personally i think it is detailed and analylised very good but sometimes i need to use more terminology and technical terms.
Also to improve my work i need to add more ICT techniques fore example adding more pictures gifs and other programmes to make my work not only intresting to read but also visually good to look at.
lastly i need to blog more about other ideas and what i have personally found out about teen films

My progress

My group are up to date with all class and homework. I think i use the right terminology whilst writing my blogs as well as using a fair amount of ICT. However, i think i could develop my use of ICT in more depth and use a variety of different ict skills such as posting not only gifs and images but also links and vlogs. Furthermore, i need to post blogs during the period in which we are doing the work and post them before deadlines.

Progress Reflection

At the moment I feel that the progress of my blog is very good as I have been able to keep on track with all of my blogging tasks and they are all up to date. In these blogging posts I have also managed to use many different types of media such as videos, Jpegs and Gifs.
In the future to imporove I want to use many more different types of media in my blog posts to make them more visually interesting such as embeding prezzi's, wordles and maybe even interviewing people.

progress analysis on my work

my group and i are up to date with all of the blog asks that we have been set and the ones we need to do personally. i believe that i am doing well in my blogging and i am putting in a lot of time and effort to keep my grade up and also help my group for the best of grades. i personally believe that i could include use of different ict methods for example 'prezi' and 'gifs'. these would give a boost up to the way i present my work and how they may look more professional when i post my blogs.

i could also start blogging my own personal analysis's on teen films and blogs about things i find in other teen films that could help our group for a better understanding of teen films.

Donnie darko analysis - camera and editing

in donnie darko there a variety of different editing and camera techniques within the scene which make the audience which affects the sequence.

the first thing we see is the school bus which appears to be sidewise it then tilts back to normal which could suggest that everything is not as it seems, furthermore when the three boys are walking in the hallway the camera does a whip pan to show the bully this shot is effective because it establishes the difference between the status of the three boys and the bully.

Next there is another whip pan from the bully to the teacher to show how the teacher feels towards the bully, there is also a mid shot to show her emotion which helps the audience to know her thoughts towards him before the film actually starts. the scene is then edited to speed up the teachers movements which could suggest she is a serious boring person.

moreover the scene is edited as the teacher pats the student back, the students back who he taps looks like the perfect  student hence the reason a bright light comes on screen taking it to the next scene.A tilt shot in then used to establish another character an outsider(fat girl)sitting down reading something this tilt shot is effective because it introduces another character to the audience.

also throughout the entire sequence the camera tracks all the characters around the school which to the audience makes it seem as if they are getting a tour of the whole school .

donnie darko sequence analysis on mise-en-scene

this is an analysis on the use of mise en scene in the film.

in the film sequence on donnie darko i focused on the use of mise-en-scene in the introduction of the arrival scene. the fist thing i saw automatically everybody is dressed up smartly and in a clean manor where all of them are wearing a white shirt and tucked in with smart bags and books under their arms.
at the entrance of the school there is a layout of flowers and the way they are set out are really clean and tidy. this shows how the school is a well presented school big goals ahead for the students.

the teachers are presented in a strict posture and and in this shot you could see the book in her arms has a quote or title that is about attitudinal beliefs. this is a use of mise en scene to present the type of teachers there are in the film.

in this scene of the class room the use of mise en scene is really effective because they have presented flag of the united states of america. also the teacher is presented with a smart dressed which also makes it look like the school is a productive school and ready to learn.

Donnie Darko analysis - Location

The main location for this scene is a High school, which is the typical setting for a teen movie. Through out the scene it takes us through different parts of the high school.

HIGH SCHOOL CORRIDOR
As the camera work takes us through the high school corridor which is a very popular location used in teen films it shows us a variety of characters who can be seen in a school corridor.

HIGH SCHOOL PLAYGROUND
In this location it shows a lot more different sorts of characters, the location which is shown in teen films usually represents the type of characters that you may find there. Ie there is a groups of cheerleaders in the playground doing a dance in unison.

HIGH SCHOOL CLASSROOM
The classroom is a big part of high school life as this is where students are most of the time so its understandable that it is used, Usually we learn more about characters inside of the classroom as we get to meet the better and learn what kind of behaviour they posses.

Donnie Darko Blogging Task- Characters

During the opening of Donnie Darko, we are introduced to a variety of different characters.

Firstly we are shown a group of geeks walking down a high school corridor with a bully walking in the opposite direction. He is shown barging through the group geeks and making faces; he is shortly followed by a strict, stern looking teacher for his actions. We are also briefly introduced to the popular pretty girl who is seen looking at her reflection in the mirror she has installed in her locker which emphasises her role of being the popular girl within the teen movie. Moreover, a male teacher taps a students shoulder and the screen fades white which may suggest that the student has a bright future ahead of him and takes on the ambitious role in throughout the film

We are then taken around the school grounds where we are briefly introduced to more characters such as the outsider who sits alone reading a book, opposing to the high school blonde cheerleaders who are promptly shown after, typically using their lunch breaks to dance in their short skirts.

Storyboard !

This is an idea we came up with as a group based on the arrival to a location in teen films !

I am going to explain our story board.
The method of arrival that we chose as a group was a skateboard, we felt this was best suited to our character as he is a bit of an outsider and a loser.
In the first few shots we see a variety of long/wide shots of the character traveling on his skateboard, we also decided in shot number 3 we would use a panning shot to follow him as he skateboards.
As the story progresses, our main character sees a couple of hoodlums which he is not very fond of and is also a little scared of, to show this in shots 4 and 5 we do close ups of both the hoodlums face and the main character.
Due to the characters fear of the other boys, he accidentally falls off his skateboard (this can be seen in shot 6 with the use of a long shot which captures it)
Due to him falling, his skateboard manages to hit another one of the hoodlums resulting in him too falling over (these are also caught in a variety of mid/long shots)
We then see the group of boys which begin to chase the main character as he is on his way to college.
He however reaches an obstacle on his way, there is a bike path which he must wait at before crossing or else he will get hit.
As we see him waiting to build tension that the other group of boys might catch him we chose to use Shot-Reverse-Shot, which will cut to the boys running towards him and getting closer, then a shot of him anxiously waiting for the bikes to end, then another shot of the boy who are now much much closer. (These can be seen in shots 12, 13 and 14)
Luckily, the bikes have now gone which means the main character can keep on running.
We then decided to be kind and allow him to reach college, tap his ID pass and get inside, leaving the hoodlums outside with no ID meaning they cant harm him, to show his excitement and their anger we will use another shot-reverse-shot to show the different expressions each of the characters are feeling.

genre and sub genre

Genre and sub genres in teen movies

the main genres found in teen films are :

  • comedy
  • romance
  • sport
  • action
  • conflict
  • sci-fi
All of the listed catogeries are used in teen films becuase teenage can relate to the situations within a teen movie. The characters in the teen films are always stereotypically ,matched with there genre of the film for example the most popular boy will play a sport and the most popular girl will normally also play a sport or are seen cheerleading.also the nerds or 'geeks' in a film are linked with the sci-fi catogery.
http://media.masslive.com/republican/photo/2010/09/-0ef58cbe50cd9806.jpghttp://www.redorbit.com/media/uploads/2013/06/ComputerNerd_062513-617x416.jpg http://cdn.mrcostumes.com/images/pz/3492/womens-gleeclub-cheerleader-costume-02475.jpghttp://www.cinemablend.com/images/news_img/37044/21_Jump_Street_2_37044.jpg

furthermore the locations in a teen film depend on the catogery of genre of the films the most common locations are a high school,a gym,a local neighbour hood house or in a teen bedroom.most teen films have all of these locations within one film and have different characters in these certsin locations to represent their peronality.

Attack The Block- Holiday Task

Attack the Block is a teenage movie due to the actors within the film as well as, the mise-en scene and editing which helps establish this. Attack the Block is set in South London, where a gang of ‘hood’ teens causing chaos around estates, selling marijuana and robbing civilians. The target audience which is primarily male teenagers may be able to identify with the characters lifestyle as the may be currently going through the same lifestyle or have in the past, or they may just watch it to feel gratified as they may enjoy Sci Fi, action and fantasy. The predatory aliens which attack the gangs ‘block’ bring out the characters heroic roles and goes against the gangster stereotype as the gangster is the one who saves the block from being attacked by the aliens. This could be seen as a countertype because he ends up being a hero which was unexpected from the audience.

We are shown an insight of the main character’s life and how troubled teenagers are looked down on by society. However, as the film progresses we see a change in the way he acts and see he is not in fact self-centred, arrogant, careless as he was portrayed to be throughout the film. We see him take on the heroic role and saves people from being attacked by the aliens. Furthermore, his fellow gang members are also there to help him which changes views towards them from the audience.

Attack The Block shows experiences and events in which troubled gang members have to under go. Although, some scenes and aspects may be unrealistic others parts show friendships, crime and relationships.  Moreover,  we are shown true friendships as well as rivals and enemies. The film portrays police to be unfair during the beginning however, as the film progresses to the end we see they are not infact unfair and are just doing their jobs.

The Bling Ring

The bling Ring is a teen film which is partly established due to the use of location, actors and other aspects such as mise en scene. The main location within the film is at a high school, however throughout the movie we are presented with other locations which include party events. Bling Ring can be categorized under a teen film as it contains things which teenagers can identify and relate to. We are shown cliques, partying and alcohol and drug intake which is thing which teens usually associate themselves with now days. Furthermore, there are typical teens within the film, such as the ‘outcast’ and ‘popular girls’.

Although, parts of the characters in the Bling Ring daily life may be an exaggeration of teenage life, it does have some aspects which the target audience which is teenagers of the female sex can relate to; like the clique and how the girls act throughout the film to get what they want. This film could possible cause some controversy as teenagers in this film are negatively portrayed as it shows the self-indulgence among teenagers. This is evident when the teens carry out robberies in celebrities’ homes.
The Bling Ring is not our typical teenage movie as it does not consist of the basic stereotypes which would be found around a high school. This would usually include for example the jock and geeks. However, within the clique in the movie there are individuals whom are presented to be rebellious and mean. There is also an ‘outcast’ character who is a male that joins their female clique which could be because he happened to be gay; he could be considered quite feminine which could be the main reason as to why he fitted in well with the group.

Binary Opposition

The movie my group were chosen to analyse was Romeo and Juliet. It is a romance as well as a tragedy based teenage movie. This film consists of various binary oppositions however gang and rivalry is a prime example. From just the opening of the film, sound, mise en scene, camera work and editing is all used to emphasise this binary opposition of the two gangs: Capulets and Montagues.

The sounds used when introducing the two different gangs are very contrasting. When the Montagues enter the scene, very loud rock music is playing in their car. However, the Capulets enter with enigmatic, mystical music which promptly shows the audience the Capulets are more intimidating. When the two gangs meet the music used is sharp which suggests a 'civil brawl' may be taking place.

The Mise en scene shows a clear comparison between the Capulets and Montagues through the use of props, costume, lighting and other aspects of Mise en scene. The clothing which the Montagues are seen in throughout is very bright, unkempt and casual whereas, the Capulets are dressed in refined, sophisticated, dark clothing. This suggests that the Montagues are not serious and are just having an enjoyable time. On the other hand, the Capulets look quite dangerous and aggressive. Furthermore, the cars in which both opposing families are found in also emphasise this. The Capulets drive in dark, sleek race cars whereas the Montagues drive in bright cars. Both gangs have their gang names engraved onto their guns which allows the audience to take the Montagues more seriously.

The camera work is also used to show present the binary opposition of rivalry. Extreme close ups of the opposing gang's eyes are shown which create an intense atmosphere. Also, a two shot is used of the leader from the Montague and Capulets gang showing them dropping their guns and putting their hands up as ordered by the police. This allows the audience to see the difference between the two in terms of clothing as well as body language. The Capulets body posture is more upright and muscular in comparison to the Montague.

Finally editing is used to establish the two gangs. Shot-reverse shot is used when showing the main leaders of the Capulets and Montagues. This is allows us to see the difference between the two characters in terms of physical appearance and dialogue. Slow motion of when the Capulets leader is shooting a Montague trying to get away from the brawl is done to create intensity, apprehensive tone for the audience. It also suggests that the Capulets are more aggressive and frightening.

Teen Movies and their audiences

Attack The Block.

The target audience for this movie is teenage males as they may be able to identify with the life of the street gang or location. Moreover, they may feel gratified by watching this movie as they enjoy watching action and sci-fi. It may also appeal to girls due to the few female roles within the film, or because they may find a character attractive. Both male and female may watch it because they aspire to be like one of the actors or are fans of a certain actor.

21 Jump Street has a variety of genres such as: Crime fiction, action, comedy and romance. The movie focuses on group of young looking undercover police officers whom are investigating crimes in high schools and colleges as well as other teenage venues. This movie in particular may appeal to females as they characters from the opposite sex attractive; in this case it would be the actor Channing Tatum as he's often audiences' eye candy. Having well known actors attract a wider audience as people will want to watch the films that actor stars in. It also attracts the teenage male audience due to the action and crime fiction within the film. To conclude, 21 Jump Street is targeted at both male and female teenagers as well as young adults.

47 ronin

This is a film based on the Japanese culture of their past. He film is targeted at teen and elder but isn't really a teen film. It contains mythical content and science fiction based content which could draw the attention of teenagers especially as we know them as 'geeks' or maybe other teenagers that like mythical stories and history like action games.
One really good thing about this film is that it has an variety of themes and one of the main one is romance. With romance being in this film is an advantage for the makers because it would not only draw the attention of males but also teen girls. It contains the following themes ; action, Sci Fi, science fiction, thriller, romance and more etc. The characters non the film is very similar to teen films because it has the jock, mean girl, outsider, the girl everybody wants, the mean boy, the leader and more etc.

The main story line for this film is based on a romantic relationship between an princess and a outsider but it can never be. The film is believed to be based on a true story of the Japanese culture and where most things began in their history and past.  How i can relate this film to be an teen film is that it contains a lot of  teen favourites like action and fighting and some fans may like mythical creatures like dragons and witches. And obviously there being samurai and monks fighting. These are main things male teens usually like. On the other hand there being a princess as a main character and romance included would make teen girls enjoy it as well as boys.

Another way I could relate this particular film to teens is that 'kay' (main character) is brought in to the film as an outsider that everybody dislikes but further on in the film he is brought in to the crowd wheren most people dont like him but because they need his help, he becomes one of the most respected by the ones who bullied him and hated on him. this I could relate to the modern life styles of teenagers and is a similar theme in a majority of other teen films eve if it isn't based on a similar storyline. Where an outsider is lonely and then brought in to a particular crowd that is the most popular or best at everything and then becomes a leader or most respected.

The main character kay is really different than everybody else and this is indicated by the use of mine en scene from the way he is dressed and big scars on his head. We could automatically indicate his difference from the people because he looks very English and everybody else looks Japanese. The producers and editors differ him from the others by present in him in a dark and messy house in the woods unlike the Japanese where thy lie in big clean temples with servants and more. He is also introduce wearing scruffy baggy clothes and the Japanese are presented with clean fresh bright colored dresses and suits.

Camera work  in the film is another key factor that shows the difference in the characters and how they are similar to other teen films and he representation of characters with the use of camera work. The use of low shots on the king and Lords are used to show their rank and place in the film and use of high shots used when the camera is on kay is used to shown how he is unwanted , an outsider and low in there community. The close ups on the Lords faces and the kings are used to show the identification in their faces and the power and will thy have other their empire and people. The use of close up hots when present in the evel in the film is a good way to indicate the badness of that character and what their intentions are in the quality of the detail their face.

The mythical part of the film  is the best part because it is the section that draws the attention of teens and there attraction towards monsters and creatures. This is a small part that every teen boy or girl has an interest in. Sci Fi is also a part of teen interests that the have due to the action based thriller films that come in this format. The film is also available in 3D, IMAX and 2D. These are formats that teens like to watch films in.

binary opposition

Binary opposition

binary opposition is films is represented in films using mise en scene, editing, sound or camera shots.binary oppostions are oppsoties witin a film for example a typical binary opposition in a teen film would be a jock and a nerd, mise en scene would be used to show this by having the nerd wearring high waisted trousers and genereally unfashionable clothes whereas the jock is always seen wearing new fashionable clothes.

http://tvrecappersanonymous.files.wordpress.com/2010/03/varsity-jacket.jpghttp://www.listen2unclejay.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/nerd.jpghttp://katalystnetwork.com/vs/singularity/assets/frames/1/vs.png

an example of binary opposition in 10 things i hate about you is when the the cheerleaders are in a sporty ar playing hip hop musci  whilst the other girl is in a banged up truck listening to music this is a good example of binary opposition becuase mise en scene clearly is used effectively to show the difference between the the two groups.

another example of binary is in romeo and juliet, the binary opposition in this is between two families the montagues and capulets the monatgues are seen wearing suits are are dressed smartly compared to the capulets who wear brighttly couloured shirts and funly clothing, the use of mise en scene is used effictively as the way they dress reflects the way they act .

10 things I hate about you overview - Holiday Task

10 things I hate about you can definitely considered as a teem film as it has many themes that can be connected with young teenagers and problems many teens may face. The films genres are comedy, drama and romance. It is a story about a new kid in school who falls for the 'popular' girl and wants to date her but can not do so until her older sister finds a boyfriend so he goes on a mission to find her older sister who is the meanest and unsociable girl in the school. The setting of the film is very typical as it is set in a high school which is usually connected with teen film, it is also set at prom which is a big part of school life for many teens which allows them to relate to the film.
One of the main characters is Kat, who is your typical outsider, a anti-social girl who is very gloomy and moody towards everybody else, she doesn't agree with what anybody says and believes that she should never do what anybody else expects her to do but only what she wants to do. She contrasts majorly with other characters such as her sister who is your typical popular teen who only cares about what they wear the latest parties and boyfriends !

I think this film portrays many teen experiences which include ups and downs, heartbreak, relationships, friendships and events such as proms and parties. I think it presents teens in a very typical way however it is not negative nor positive, it just shows how different characters priorities things differently and how there are many types of people in high schools.
