The Bling Ring

The bling Ring is a teen film which is partly established due to the use of location, actors and other aspects such as mise en scene. The main location within the film is at a high school, however throughout the movie we are presented with other locations which include party events. Bling Ring can be categorized under a teen film as it contains things which teenagers can identify and relate to. We are shown cliques, partying and alcohol and drug intake which is thing which teens usually associate themselves with now days. Furthermore, there are typical teens within the film, such as the ‘outcast’ and ‘popular girls’.

Although, parts of the characters in the Bling Ring daily life may be an exaggeration of teenage life, it does have some aspects which the target audience which is teenagers of the female sex can relate to; like the clique and how the girls act throughout the film to get what they want. This film could possible cause some controversy as teenagers in this film are negatively portrayed as it shows the self-indulgence among teenagers. This is evident when the teens carry out robberies in celebrities’ homes.
The Bling Ring is not our typical teenage movie as it does not consist of the basic stereotypes which would be found around a high school. This would usually include for example the jock and geeks. However, within the clique in the movie there are individuals whom are presented to be rebellious and mean. There is also an ‘outcast’ character who is a male that joins their female clique which could be because he happened to be gay; he could be considered quite feminine which could be the main reason as to why he fitted in well with the group.
