Donnie darko analysis - camera and editing

in donnie darko there a variety of different editing and camera techniques within the scene which make the audience which affects the sequence.

the first thing we see is the school bus which appears to be sidewise it then tilts back to normal which could suggest that everything is not as it seems, furthermore when the three boys are walking in the hallway the camera does a whip pan to show the bully this shot is effective because it establishes the difference between the status of the three boys and the bully.

Next there is another whip pan from the bully to the teacher to show how the teacher feels towards the bully, there is also a mid shot to show her emotion which helps the audience to know her thoughts towards him before the film actually starts. the scene is then edited to speed up the teachers movements which could suggest she is a serious boring person.

moreover the scene is edited as the teacher pats the student back, the students back who he taps looks like the perfect  student hence the reason a bright light comes on screen taking it to the next scene.A tilt shot in then used to establish another character an outsider(fat girl)sitting down reading something this tilt shot is effective because it introduces another character to the audience.

also throughout the entire sequence the camera tracks all the characters around the school which to the audience makes it seem as if they are getting a tour of the whole school .
