Attack the
Block is a teenage movie due to the actors within the film as well as, the
mise-en scene and editing which helps establish this. Attack the Block is set
in South London, where a gang of ‘hood’ teens causing chaos around estates, selling
marijuana and robbing civilians. The target audience which is primarily male
teenagers may be able to identify with the characters lifestyle as the may be
currently going through the same lifestyle or have in the past, or they may
just watch it to feel gratified as they may enjoy Sci Fi, action and fantasy.
The predatory aliens which attack the gangs ‘block’ bring out the characters heroic
roles and goes against the gangster stereotype as the gangster is the one who
saves the block from being attacked by the aliens. This could be seen as a
countertype because he ends up being a hero which was unexpected from the
audience.

We
are shown an insight of the main character’s life and how troubled teenagers
are looked down on by society. However, as the film progresses we see a change
in the way he acts and see he is not in fact self-centred, arrogant, careless as
he was portrayed to be throughout the film. We see him take on the heroic role
and saves people from being attacked by the aliens. Furthermore, his fellow
gang members are also there to help him which changes views towards them from
the audience.
Attack
The Block shows experiences and events in which troubled gang members have to
under go. Although, some scenes and aspects may be unrealistic others parts
show friendships, crime and relationships. Moreover, we are shown true friendships as well as rivals and enemies. The film portrays police to be unfair during the beginning however, as the film progresses to the end we see they are not infact unfair and are just doing their jobs.
