10 things I hate about you can definitely considered as a teem film as it has many themes that can be connected with young teenagers and problems many teens may face. The films genres are comedy, drama and romance. It is a story about a new kid in school who falls for the 'popular' girl and wants to date her but can not do so until her older sister finds a boyfriend so he goes on a mission to find her older sister who is the meanest and unsociable girl in the school. The setting of the film is very typical as it is set in a high school which is usually connected with teen film, it is also set at prom which is a big part of school life for many teens which allows them to relate to the film.
One of the main characters is Kat, who is your typical outsider, a anti-social girl who is very gloomy and moody towards everybody else, she doesn't agree with what anybody says and believes that she should never do what anybody else expects her to do but only what she wants to do. She contrasts majorly with other characters such as her sister who is your typical popular teen who only cares about what they wear the latest parties and boyfriends !
I think this film portrays many teen experiences which include ups and downs, heartbreak, relationships, friendships and events such as proms and parties. I think it presents teens in a very typical way however it is not negative nor positive, it just shows how different characters priorities things differently and how there are many types of people in high schools.
