The Breakfast Club - Characters

In The Breakfast Club we are introduced to many different types of characters, which can be heard described by the narrator at the start of the film.
The Brain
An Athlete
A Basketcase
Princess
Criminal

So lets begin
The first character we are introduced to is
'THE PRINCESS'
We can clearly tell that she is your typical spoilt rich girl who gets everything she wants, the conversation with her father illustrates this perfectly she doesn't understand why she  should miss shopping to be in detention. Absolutely absurd if you ask me! However she does have a caring parent who is obviously interested in her school life and well being.
The next character we are introduced to is
'THE BRAIN'
We are then introduced to the brain which we can clearly tell is the brain. He doesn't come from a well off family like the princess, but he has been taught hard work as his mum tells him 'you figure out a way to study' in detention. We can tell it is unusual for him to be in detention as his mother seems very shocked and concerned about it. We can see he is receiving a lot of pressure from his mother. He seems like your average guy, even the clothes he is wearing look very typical and as if they fit in.

The third character we are introduced to is
'THE ATHLETE'
The character of the athlete is introduced as someone who probably doesn't usually get into detention as he is too busy working towards his 'scholarship' which his father mentions. We can tell he is not from a rich or poor background but a normal family so he is very dependent on this scholarship to get him into a good college of his choice. Similarly to the brain he is receiving pressure from his father to fix up his attitude and ways.

The fourth character we are introduced to is
'THE CRIMINAL'
It is very clear from the entrance that this character has been here before, unlike the others he is not accompanied by parents which could suggest Saturday detention is a regular occurrence for him. He is seen to walk in front of a car which shows us he posses a 'I don't care about anything attitude'

The fifth and final character we are introduced to is
'THE BASKETCASE'
This character is shown as an outsider from the beginning, not even her own parents wait around to say bye to her they just drive off, which could show either that they do not care about her or that she, like the criminal has been here many times before and they are too use to it. We can see from the car that it is one of the most expensive cars of the lot, however the character herself is dressed very all over the place as if she doesn't know how to present herself.
